A Guiding Light To Financial Freedom

A Crystal Ball For Teenagers

Posted by darelb on December 22, 2015

Parents,

As your teenage children approach the threshold of becoming full-fledged adults, have you often wondered what guidance you could give them to help prepare for that major step in life?

Well, I have two out-of-state nephews that are currently facing that predicament.  They, like most teenagers, need some guidance… they need a sense of direction… they need (though they may not realize it) a sense of purpose in life.

With all of the above in mind, I proceeded to write to them, hoping that some of what I had to say would resonate with them, and serve some positive purpose.  If so, what I wrote could very well serve as that magical crystal ball that would reveal to them where and what, in all likelihood, their employment endeavor will be in, say, five years.

Good, Bad, Or Indifferent, here is what I wrote.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi J and E,

Both of you have been very much on my mind lately.  Does that surprise you?

You are both on the threshold of becoming men.  You may not realize it, but this very year and the next few years that follow, are the most important years of your life!  Why?  Because what you do in these next few years… the decisions you make… will have a profound effect on what you will be doing… for a living… for the rest of your life!!!

Do I have your attention?

Let me begin by telling you a story.  I once attempted to help someone that was really “down on his luck”.  I gave him a place to live for three months, and set him up in his own lawn mowing business. i.e. I bought him a brand new self-propelled HONDA lawn mower, a weed-eater, a blower, and ear muffs to protect his hearing.  It cost me over $700!  Would you believe that all of that was pawned within two weeks!!!  I told him:  “As long as you live, you will never have someone do for you what I have done“!  Some people, you just can’t help!

You may be wondering:  “What’s my point… How does that relate to us”?  Well, by the same token, as long as you live, you will never have another man share with you what I am about to write!  What I write can not be pawned, but it sure can be ignored.. not heeded… not valued.  If so, the net effect is the same as pawning a lawn mower.  And just like with the lawn mower guy, what you do with this opportunity is up to you. The choice is yours… you can use this information to great advantage, or you can pawn (ignore) it.

So let me begin.  As you look to the future, and ponder what career path you want to take… what you want to do for a living, the starting point is to get focused on that very subject!

The alternative is to be somewhat like a tumbleweed that goes where ever the wind takes it.  And I dare say, the majority of men live tumbleweed lives rather than working in a career or occupation they really enjoy and find rewarding.

Now getting career focused is not that easy.  Those your age who know what they want are the lucky ones.  The rest of us have to do a lot of soul searching.  A good starting point would be to make a list of career options that appeal to you.  High School counselors could be of great assistance.  Summer employment as an apprentice could prove to be invaluable.  There are aptitude tests that you could take.  You could seek advice from those who are already doing what you may be aspiring to do.  The whole process could be both rewarding and fun!

The most obvious preparatory course of action is college. If so, the decision making process is made a lot easier.  In addition to becoming more educated, and trained to pursue a given career, the wide range of courses you can take help you narrow the field down, so that you can specialize.

But what about those who do not aspire to go to college or believe they can not come up with the money?  Well, there is good news for you!  There is a growing school of thought that college may not be the “be-all, end-all” that it is cracked up to be. Many of the degree programs have limited value when it comes time to seek employment in the real world.  and many students are graduating with a mountain of college loan debt, with payments they can’t afford to pay based on their entry level salaries.

So you could opt for a trade school!  What’s your passion?  Computer tech, the trades (many plumbers and electricians  earn more than white collar workers).  Let me stretch your imagination by throwing in a few more vocational hats in the ring, such as gun smith, photography, welding, surveying, automotive, making money on line as in internet geek, or starting your own business.  The list could go on and on, limited only by your imagination!

Regardless of what you select, resolve to become a specialist; seek specialized training; become one of the best in your chosen field.  Again and again, get focused;  Find what it is you want to do for a living, and pursue it with persistence, determination, and passion.

Well, how would you like to have a crystal ball that would reveal what you will be doing for a living in four to five years?  The crystal ball I am referring to comes in the form of a blueprint.  The blueprint becomes your crystal ball, and if you follow it faithfully, it will take you where you want to go.  Think of the advantage that gives you over your friends and associates.  Following it will put you way ahead of where you would otherwise be without it, and put you far ahead of your competition in what ever field of endeavor you choose.

Isn’t that exciting?  Like…would you rather begin a complicated project with, or without, a blueprint? And in a sense of the word, that blueprint, taking you where you want to go, becomes your crystal ball… almost like magic!  The blueprint I am referring to has a lot to do with your perception of reality, and how you can control your thinking to take you where you want to go.  Does this sound corny to you?  Have I offered hype, only to let you down?  Stay with me just a little longer, and maybe you will come to appreciate the value of what I am proposing.

If you wanted to get into body building, you would readily recognize how important a strenuous exercise program would be needed to achieve any degree of success.  Well, by the same token, much of what you are about to read will daze and amaze you with respects to how your mind can serve you, or fail you!  Okay, I may be over-stating the impact of what I will be having you read.  So let me make a more conservative statement.  Much of what you read will be motivational and inspirational.  But all of that will ware off in a short period of time if you only read it one time.  In order to master the subject matter presented to you, you should read it multiple times… like three to six times. e.g. perhaps once a month for three or more months.  If you do, just like with body building, you will be inculcating these concepts into every fiber of your being.

The net result is that it will change the way you think, and the way you think will determine your future!  What a powerful statement! Stated differently, you are now, and you will become, what you think about!

Asking you to change the way you think is a big proposition.  But just as your mussels can be strengthened with an exercise program, the way you think can be changed if you will take control of your thought process, and force your thinking to take you where you want to go.

Become complacent about what has just been written, and you will be doing the same thing in five years that you would be doing had you never been exposed to these concepts.

Remember I said at the beginning of my diatribe that “as long as you live, you will never have a man tell you what I am about to write”?    So if you are only going to hear it once in a life time, wouldn’t it be wise to take maximum advantage of this opportunity?

So the conceptual foundation has been layed, as best I know how.  Now it is time to cut to the chase by giving you a reading assignment, and turning you loose.

Here’s your assignment:  Simply go to my blog post titled:  Herb’s Letter… How To Find That Career Opportunity.  Read it multiple times, not just once  Each time you do, you will  benefit from having done so.  Remember, the key to learning is repetition!

If you do decide to pick up the lance I have thrown at your feet, and use it effectively, here are some elements that will hopefully come into play, and be demonstrated by you as the years roll by:

Goal Setting (Read my blog post titled “Why a lighthouse”)

Desire  (A strong desire, is the starting point of all great achievement)

Enthusiasm

Discipline

Persistence

Courage and self confidence

Imagination

Wisdom

Keep in mind:  It isn’t a question of intelligence, current wealth status, perceived obstacles, or physical abilities.  It is a question of training and controlling your thoughts too take you where you want to go.

Who’s with me?

An Offer You Can’t Refuse

Posted by darelb on October 22, 2014

Using the famous quote from the movie The God Father, I am about to make you an offer, dare I suggest or claim,  that “you can’t refuse”?

Obviously, you could refuse it, and you may do just that!  But here’s the rub:  In The God Father, refusing the offer resulted in sever adverse consequences…. like loss of life, or loss of property or loss of business.  So it was a wise choice to accept the offer.  Right?

Well, that’s not where I am coming from with my offer.  What I am suggesting is that if you refuse my offer, you could be closing the door to an opportunity to take your first step to wealth creation.  Now I ask you:  If you pass on this opportunity to take that first step to wealth creation, wouldn’t that be potentially a serious adverse consequence?  And if you accept this premise, haven’t I, in fact, made you an offer you can’t refuse?

Let me put this another way:

1.  If you are serious about wealth creation;

2.  If you are a “newbie” in the wealth creation arena;

3.  If you just don’t know where to begin, in your quest for wealth creation,

Then why would you not accept this offer?  If there is any substance to my offer, and it cost you nothing to check it out, then haven’t I  made you an offer you can’t (logically) refuse?  Maybe I have over-stated my premise.  Maybe the statement should be an offer you shouldn’t refuse.

And if you did refuse it, then I have to ask:  Why was it rejected?  Dare I suggest possible reasons for the rejection?

1.  Not serious about finding a proven wealth creation vehicle.

2.  Skepticism:  If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

3.  Procrastination;  I’ll focus on wealth creation later.

4.  Lack of commitment and desire.

Read some of my blog posts, and you will see how important I consider goal setting, thought control, desire, and taking action to be.  All of these concepts are applicable to the offer I am about to make.  In short, more than anything else, this is a call to action!  if you will not accept my offer, then just what offer would you accept?

Okay, I know.  You can’t really answer this question, until you know what my offer is.  Right?  Fair enough.  So Here’s my offer… and challenge…. to you.

Simply type in the url below, rather than clicking on it……and listen to what an internet marketing millionaire has to say about using the internet to create passive income:

Pensions and Dinosaurs: What Do They Have In Common?

Posted by darelb on August 9, 2014

Pensions and dinosaurs:  What do they have in common?  You guessed it!  One is extinct (dinosaurs) , and the other (Pensions) is headed in that direction!  Why not throw interest paid on bank account savings, and the prospect for future Social Security benefits in the same pot?

This does not bode well for future  retirement income, and financial security, does it?

You probably agree!  So I have to ask, what are you doing about it… or what are you going to do about it?

There is a commonly stated analogy often used to the effect that if you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump out.  But if the water is, say room temperature, and you heat it up gradually, the frog won’t jump. and will die.

For at least ten years you have been hearing that Social Security is headed for insolvency,  And more recently, you have been reading about how more and more corporations are reducing or eliminating pension plan programs; and they are hiring people on a part time basis, rather than full time to lessen health care costs.   I read recently that about 70% of the first generation baby boomers expected to receive pensions from their employers, but that with the second, older baby boomer generation, that percent has dwindled to more like 10% to 20%.  And it is not unreasonable to expect pensions in general to go the way of the dinosaurs!

Doesn’t this suggest that now, more than ever before, is the time to take wealth building serious?  If so, don’t be a frog in warm water.  What has been the economic norm for us is rapidly changing, and things are heating up.  Some of us are going to get third degree burns, if you know what I mean.  So why not be pro-active, not re-active?  Explore ways to generate other income streams besides that of your current job.  This can best be done by becoming more informed as to what options and opportunities are out there… just waiting for you to grasp and take advantage of.

Now this blog is narrow in scope, with respects to what avenue you may take to achieve financial independence.  But I contend that it is certainly a good starting point!  Internet income, which is the primary focus of this blog, offers some excellent opportunities for obtaining a secondary source of income.  Why not check it out?  See if this is your cup of tea!

Hope you stick around to learn more about the focus of this blog!  Check back on a regular basis; the best is yet to come!

Wealth Vitamins (Hurry, supply limited!)

Posted by darelb on April 18, 2014

Hurry, Hurry, Hurry!  Step right up and get your Wealth Vitamins while they last!

Does this conjure up the image of an early 19th century snake oil salesman coming into a small town on a chuck wagon, hanging out a large sign with his product on it, and barking out the invitation to buy his product…. selling a cure in a bottle for just about any ailment you could name?  If so, good… that is my intention.

Why?… you may ask!  Well, I am about to suggest something that sounds, at first blush, as suspect as my snake oil vendor’s product. I am hawking “Wealth Vitamins”.

And in doing so, I would expect you to be as skeptical and suspicious as if I were selling snake oil.

Yet, I am dead serious about this topic, though admittedly, I am creating some-what of an analogy.  But for all practical purposes, the end result of what I am describing will have the same effect as if you actually were taking wealth vitamins.

You take health vitamins to do what?  How about… to become more healthy!  Well, what if you could take wealth vitamins to become more wealthy?  “Nonsense” you may say.  But I contend that there is such a thing, only it is disguised so that you wouldn’t recognize it if it was right in front of you.  You see, it comes in a form labeled thought vitamins.  Now there are different types of health vitamins oriented toward achieving different health oriented objectives. So you need to choose carefully.  Well, there are different forms of thought vitamins.  Read the label on the bottle, because you need to choose the thought vitamin bottle oriented toward obtaining wealth… if that is your objective.

Let me explain the magnificent, and profound significance of this statement.  Can you accept this axiom?:  “You are now, and you will become, what you think about“?   That statement comes from an authority on this subject… Earl Nightingale, a nationally acclaimed motivational speaker.

Hopefully you would agree with that statement.  If so, let me ask another question: What is the correlation between thought and wealth?  Well, unless you fall into some good fortune, like winning the lottery, the two are inseparable!

Let me lay another conceptual building block.  Earl Nightingale would make another major point to the effect that if you know what it is you want in life, you are 90% there.  You only need go another 10% to get what you want.  Now that may sound challengable, but think of it: you have to know what it is you want before you have a prayer of a chance of getting it… of reaching some predetermined destination!!  However, closing that 10% gap isn’t as easy as it sounds.  It requires harnessing the power of thought; and it requires thought discipline.

And this is where my “thought vitamins” concept comes into play.  If, topically speaking, we are discussing health issues, the need for taking health vitamins might come into play.  When and if it does, how ludicrous would it be to suggest that one take a whole bottle of vitamins at one time?  Obviously, the goal… the strategy… would be to take those vitamins over an extended period of time.

Well, I contend that the mind has a need for “thought” vitamins, in order for it to enhance its’ ability to take you where you want to go.  And make no mistake, it is your mind… the way you think… that is going to make that determination, more than any other factor you can name.  Recognizing this, one way to accomplish this purpose would be to read, on a periodic basis, something that will accomplish one or more of the following objectives:

1. Becoming more informed on how to achieve your primary goal in life.

2. Keep your mind supercharged and focused on that objective.

3. Provide increased motivation to take the action required to achieve that objective.

I believe this is a Napoleon Hill quote: “Our thoughts are things! And their air-born  wings, speed ore the track, to bring you back, what ever thoughts went out from your mind”.

So in closing, I would suggest that you can enrich your life by taking control of your thought process.  And this can best be accomplished by feeding it thought vitamins. Example: You select a real motivational book to read, such as The Power Of Positive Thinking by Norman V. Peal, or Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  I ask you, which would be better? Read one of these books cover to cover in one setting, or a chapter a day over an extended period of time?  Take one vitamin, or the whole bottle at one time?

Well, it is my hope and goal, that this blog can produce some periodic thought vitamins that will spur you to see wealth possibilities you might otherwise miss, and spur you to set goals, take action, backed by persistence to the point that you simply will not be denied the obtainment of your dreams!  Now if those dreams are to become wealthy, couldn’t we change the term from “thought vitamins” to “Wealth Vitamins”?  And if so, would you now agree with my premise that in order to become wealthy, it would be a good idea to start taking daily dosages of Wealth vitamins?

Wealth and Risk Taking – 3 Things to Know

Posted by darelb on March 29, 2014

What is the connection between wealth and risk taking?

I contend that it is wise to spend money in order to gain knowledge and professional advise on how to be successful in your wealth building field of endeavor. It increases your chance of success, accelerates your learning curve, and expedites potential cash flow.

This has been called “building your platform”. It could be a Mc Donalds franchise (if you have over half a million to invest), the real estate field, stocks, a small business, or a presence on the internet via your own product, or affiliate marketing.  Your choice of focus is practically unlimited.

With respects to having a “platform”, let’s say you wanted to build a fishing guide business, starting out part time and evolving into full time.  Well, your “platform” could be a multi-thousand dollar bass boat, and a creative marketing plan for growing your business. BTW, as a sailor, I have always been amused by the tendency for fisherman to head to the other side of the lake to find a good fishing spot.  In so doing, they pass boats from the opposite side of the lake heading to their boat launch site side of the lake, to find their fishing spot.

So if your goal is to launch some income producing project, what is your platform? Let’s say you choose to become a real estate investor. Wouldn’t it be wise to invest in knowledge (pertaining to real estate) first? And if so, this can be very expensive.  A well known real estate millionaire and guru, Ron Le Grand, offers starter courses at low prices, but then attempts to persuade you to take one or two multi-thousand dollar courses.

Many of his students cringe at the prospect of spending that kind of money, to which he will state…. “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance”  So true… so true.

One internet option that intrigues me is affiliate marketing. It takes low capital to get started, you don’t have to create your own product, carry inventory, or ship product. And the commissions are typically 50% or more of any sale you make Not too shabby!

Regardless of the path you choose… the platform you select… it will cost you money to get started.  And one of the major cost factors is paying other professionals to help you get started.  And this is where the risk factor kicks in.

Here is what you typically find being offered by internet gurus:  $37 starter courses, more advanced “$297” courses, and then the $1,000 (correction: $999) course.  Note: $999 sounds more affordable than $1,000.

So, once you commit, you are taking a risk.  You could be very successful, or you could be throwing your money away. So let me offer the three axioms to risk taking, taught in Risk Management courses.

1.  Don’t Risk A Lot For A Little:

Would you bet the family farm for a chance to win $100, even if you felt the  odds really favored you?  If so, you would be violating the first axiom concerning risk taking.  You would, in fact, be risking a lot for a little.

2. Don’t Risk More Than You Can Afford:

No matter how good the opportunity appears to be, it is not wise to risk more than     you can afford.  If the transaction blows up in your face, you want to be able to          say “that stings but it won’t ruin me… I can recover… I can afford it”. And what a great learning experience that experience might prove to be!

3.  Know and Consider The Odds:

Often, this is the hardest of the three to quantify… to come to grips with, in terms of risk.  And the less you know what the odds are, the less you should spend… and maybe you should just walk away.

But wait!  There is a fourth risk concept:

The biggest risk in life, is to take no risk at all!!!

No elaboration needed on this concept, right?  But it begs the question: Is that the kind of life you want to live?  A life of “no pain… no gain”… “no risk… no reward”!

Bottom line, I am encouraging my readers to take a little risk… very little… by spending a little bit of money to gain more knowledge on their chosen field of endeavor.  With that new-gained knowledge, they will have the confidence to invest more… thus accelerating their learning curve, and cash flow potential…. or shut it down and pursue another avenue.

Beware Of Scams!

The internet is full of business opportunities and ways to make money on line.  But bewared, many of them are legitimate, but some of them are either scams, or have very little marginal value.

So how can you protect yourself?  Investigate before you commit; do research (check references, check with the Better Business Bureau, etc).  Never respond to requests to transfer money.  Another example of an at home income opportunity to avoid is “envelope stuffing”.

Don’t respond to internet/email requests to “UP Date Information”. Scammers would have you believe you are dealing with your bank, Ebay, PayPal, or even the IRS.  They want your account information!

Rather than buying into an on-line business opportunity, why not create your own?  It is quite doable, if you commit to gaining the knowledge with the purchase of some on-line courses.

Remember:  If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.  Be prepared to spend some money on training and education.  It is money well spent, and it can change your life!  Just be cautious, and follow the Three Axioms Of Risk Taking discussed above.

A Consultant’s $25,000 Idea

Posted by darelb on December 26, 2013

Question:   Would you pay $25,000 for an idea that could help you become wealthy?

Well, stay tuned and read about a $25,0000 Secret Wealth Building Formula: that is what this topic is all about!

I have talked about “Wealth Vitamins”, Goal Setting (“Lighthouse”), Motivation (“Herb’s Letter”), “Persistence”, and a Wealth Platform to fish for money from (Millionaire Talk).  So what’s missing, topically speaking?

What next topic would you pick to round out this discussion?  There are several that come to my mind, but the one I want to focus on now would be that of taking action!

So what if I gave you a secret formula, or an action plan that could greatly increase your effectiveness in obtaining your primary goal in life?  I am talking about an action plan… and a  formula that could prove invaluable in your quest for financial freedom.  In fact, without it, you might as well forget achieving that objective!

This formula/action plan is what a Corporate CEO paid money to a management consultant…   he wrote a check in the amount of $25,000!  Now, how much would you pay?  i.e., if I offered it to you right now for $25, sight unseen, would you risk the purchase?  Well, not to worry.  I am giving it to you for FREE!  I call this the $25,000 idea.  Here’s the true story, and the concept:

The Story:

A well-know industrialist (Charles Schwab) once hired a management consultant (Ivy Lee) to improve his firm’s productivity.  Mr. Lee proceeded to outline several ideas on how to manage more effectively, and then waited for the CEO’s response.  However, Mr. Schwab was not at all impressed!  In fact, Mr. Schwab said to Mr. Lee: “We already KNOW more than what we are actually doingso we don’t need more know how!!! What we need is more DOING!!!  If you can show me how to accomplish more “doing”, I’ll pay you what ever I think the idea is worth!!

Mr. Lee then offered this plan:  He told Mr. Schwab:  (1) take out a pencil and paper; (2) now write down the six most important things that you need to accomplish tomorrow; (3) now number them in the order of their importance.

Now, starting tomorrow, start with number one, and stay with it until you are finished with it; then go to number two.  Sure, there will be interruptions and other things that pop up to take you away from this task.  But when you have taken care of these distractions, go right back to your list, and complete that first task.  Then move on to the second task.  At the end of the day, if you haven’t completed all six priorities, you at least have the satisfaction of knowing that the most important ones were accomplished first.  Besides, if you couldn’t have completed all six items using this method, you wouldn’t have accomplished them using any other method.

Mr. Schwab implemented this plan throughout his firm.  After a few months, he sent Mr. Lee a check in the amount of $25,000 with a note that said: “from a money stand point, this was the most profitable management tool that he had ever used”! Now this was during the industrial revolution.  If that idea was worth $25,000 to him then, what would it be worth in today’s inflated economy?  Factoring in inflation, dare I suggest that it might be referred to as a $250,000 idea?

Disappointed?  Expected more?

Now you may well say “this is nothing new; I have used a “To Do List” for years…. I have even seen memo pads in office supply stores with a “To Do” title as a header.  True, but does any such list that you have used in the past instruct you to assign priorities, and not go to item number two until item one is completed? And have you even been utilizing a daily “To Do” list?  And if so, have you done so by sticking with the most important item, before moving on to the next one?  If not, do see the potential here for increasing your productivity?  Maybe yes… maybe no… but as Paul Harvey would say: “Now you know the rest of the story“.

Bottom line, nothing happens without taking action.  We set our goals, become motivated to achieve them, and then take the required action to do just that.  And then we back that action up with persistence to the point that we will not quit, or be denied the obtainment of our desires.  I liken it to dripping water wearing away the hardest rock over a period of time.  The rock is the obstacle that is keeping us from our goal.   And the dripping water demonstrates the persistence required to over-come obstacles in our way.

One ingredient that I have left out of this discussion….   you need a platform to work from. i.e. a proven system that you can implement to achieve your objective.  A McDonalds Franchise could be your platform, if you have around half a million or more to get it up and running.  In fact, the number of platforms for you to choose from is practically unlimited.  As a starting point of exploration, why not try out this platform at Millionaire Talk i.e., go back to my Home Page, and click on “Millionaire Talk”.

.  What ever your choice… get started… take action!

Wealth via Persistence

Posted by darelb on September 22, 2013

As you seek to gain wealth, would you consider yourself a tortoise, or a hare?

Are you in it for the long run, or are you a splash in the pan?

Seminar speakers touting how to get rich by, for example, investing in real estate, the stock market, buying gold, etc, will tell you 95% plus of those attending their seminars will not be successful in their endeavors to create wealth by following the instructor’s course materials.

Why is that? And what would you say is the single most significant reason for this failure rate?  Well, the title of this article pretty much gives it away; doesn’t it?

Yep, it is the lack of persistence and follow-through that kills the deal.  Some have spent thousands of dollars for the books, tapes, and CDs that go with attending the seminars, and never even get around to reading the books, listening to the tapes, or listening to the CDs.

These seminar attendees leave the seminar excited, fully motivated, hopeful, and with the best of intentions.  How else could you explain their writing a check for, say, $2,000 to $3,000?  But the vision.. the excitement… the enthusiasm…  fades with each passing day… week… month…. year.  So what’s lacking here?  Again, it is “persistence”.

Perhaps the power of persistence can best be summarized in the quote below.

PERSISTENCE  AND  DETERMINATION

Press  On:

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not: Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not:  Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent.

Author Unknown

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Does the above strike a chord with you?  If so, try this quote, because it can be tied in with “Persistence”.

Routine

Routine Brings Results!!!

A disorganized genius is no match for the average person with a daily routine.

Robert Allen

Now tie these two concepts in with this blog’s articles… “Wealth Vitamins”… “Why A Lighthouse”…. “Millionaire Talk”, and “Herb’s Letter”.  Then supplement this material with other media along these lines, and you could be well on your way to living a more focused, meaningful, and successful life.

In short, your success could very well be a function of Persistence!

Millionaire Talk

Posted by darelb on September 22, 2013

Read what a millionaire has to say about how you can become a millionaire.

Three Types of Income:

There are 3 types of income to become a millionaire.

You need to do something to make money, whether it consists of taking a series of small actions on a periodic basis, or a big one.  Even if that action is small, like just sending out emails-to market a product – that’s still considered as taking action.

If you accept that fact, then  it’s obvious that your are on the right track.

To create wealth and become a millionaire, you need to have a vehicle or platform.  I like to call it “Opportunity” because a proven money making platform represents the kind of platform one should be seeking, as wealth-creating opportunities are sought.

Obviously, there are plenty of opportunities to choose from today, and it become “confusing” when you do not know your purpose.

Different opportunities will give you different types of income possibilities.  So let’s look at three types of income:

Income Today:

This is the income that you’ll need today and within the next 30 days.  Basically, this is your life-line – you need money right now to not only to enjoy your lifestyle, but as a fund for your journey to financial freedom.

You have to understand that there’s no liberty in living frugal – you need to use your income today to give you the pleasures of what you can afford.  You need to continuously reward yourself for taking actions to become successful.

Income Tomorrow:

While making money for income today, you would also be planning for income tomorrow. Income tomorrow is defined as income that you’ll have within months and can be extended to a year or so.

It creates a short-term passive income.  For instance, you own a internet on-line membership where people are paying you a monthly fee.

Millionaire Income:

Then there is millionaire income.  This is where you can be truly free.  You can choose when to work or not to work any more.  The biggest mistake that average people make (which keeps them from millionaire status) is simply not choosing the right opportunity (platform) that can lead to this stage.

Bare in mind that Opportunity can change at any time.  Just think of it as being the vehicle to get you from one place to another place; your trying to get from your current level of income to a higher financial level.

That being said, your focus should be on choosing the most suitable vehicle/platform that will take you to your destination of choice.  This is critical!

In my years of making money and creating wealth, I’ve used at least 3 major Opportunities.  So it is all about choosing the right vehicle, and staying focused on it.  If you choose the right platform/vehicle, then you will achieve wealth.  So take great care in selecting the right vehicle.  Take the necessary action required to select the right “vehicle”, and then be persistent in “driving” that vehicle to where you want to go…stay focused, be persistent, and you will reach your goal.

P.S.  This article is written by Patric Chan.  Find out how you too can become a Wake Up Millionaire!

So that’s it folks; Chan shows you how to become a millionaire by choosing a platform or vehicle that will help you earn three different types of income on your journey to wealth and financial freedom.

Finding That Job (Herb’s Letter)

Posted by darelb on September 22, 2013

Question:  What would you say to a discouraged friend that can’t find a job?

Well, permit me to tell you what I said to my friend experiencing job hunting frustration, rejection, and discouragement!

My comments were offered in the form of a letter (“Herb’s Letter”).

I chose the letter format over voiced comments, because it can be re-read several times, and be more thorough in content delivery.

Perhaps you have a friend that you would like to help…. the way I wanted to help Herb.  If so, why not copy Herb’s Letter, and send it to that friend of yours.  He/She would appreciate your concern, thoughtfulness,  and assistance.

Here is what I wrote:

Dear Herb,

Where do I begin? I have been thinking of you, and how tough it is to go through the process of finding a challenging career slot, rather than just any old job to earn a living.

It is a discouraging, scary, and in some respects, degrading experience. It is a process that just grinds you down.  Sometimes all the hype in the world, and all the positive platitudes just aren’t enough to overcome the day-to-day negativity and metamorphic land mine type disappointments that just blow you away.  So how does one cope?  There is a way to become genuinely excited about your prospect for finding that elusive career objective.  That is what this letter is all about.  It’s a tall order, but read on, and see if you don’t agree with my optimistic view.

I also hope to offer some encouragement and more importantly, present a totally new perspective that will help you get through this somewhat traumatic experience. Let’s get semi-highfalutin, and call it a major paradigm shift!

The heart of the problem is that you want to hold out for the career opportunity of your dream.  But necessity may dictate that you will have to settle for something less.  Of course you know this; we even discussed it.  And if push come to shove, that is exactly what you will do.  No surprises here; it’s called survival!  So this is not my focus or point.  If you do find the perfect job in the near future, what I am about to write will have little value.  However, if you do have to settle for less (call it sub-optimizing) then I think the following concepts will have considerable value!

Simply stated: when and if the time comes that you must accept a job that does not adequately utilize your abilities, and fulfill your life’s ambitions, understand that this is only a temporary setback…. that you will have the rest of your life to re-focus career objectives and then to initiate action that will move you in that direction.  After all, think of it; you want to be an international corporate trainer, and the world is a big place in which to explore employment opportunities.  Most people, because of an unwillingness to relocate, must settle for employment opportunities in the local job market. Nor would they likely be willing to commit the rest of their employment career constantly attempting to move in that direction.  THAT is the major paradigm shift that I am talking about!  So simple, and yet (I believe) so profound!  The emphasis changes from that of finding the right career opportunity to that of taking a lesser position, and then continuing the career search… week after week, month after month… and if need be, year after year.  You simply will not be denied!  In the mean time, Susan (Herb’s daughter) gets to eat three meals a day, and you might even be able to build that deck you have been wanting.  But you don’t become complacent or loose focus… you keep marketing yourself.  In some instances, you will develop an on-going relationship with corporate leaders that may not need your services now, but change their minds sometime in the future. You will be net-working, and there are all kinds of serendipitous possibilities.

So much for the paradigm shift.  Now let me present some career building blocks that will give you the tools you need to get on with this program.  From this point on, I cannot take any credit for the powerful, life-changing concepts that you are about to read!  The ideas come from national motivational speakers and world famous philosophers; men who have devoted their lives to helping others find fulfillment in life, and become what they are capable of.

First, let’s identify some major components that produce negative emotions and then evaluate some thought vitamin anedotes:

Discouragement:

While others may side-track your ambitions not a few times, remember that discouragement most frequently comes from within.  Napoleon Hill

So if you, yourself, are the primary source of discouragement, you have the power to over-come that demon.

Doubts and Fears:

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.  Shakespeare

Recognizing this, you are then able to over-come doubt and fear by continuing your marketing effort, even if that effort must be on a part time basis.  Somewhere along the way the doubt and fear will dissipate.  It has been said:  Do what you fear the most, and the fear will go away.

Defeat and Failure:

Time is a Master Worker that heals the wound of temporary defeat, and equalizes the inequalities and rights the wrongs of the world.  There is nothing impossible with time.  Napoleon Hill

OR, HOW ABOUT THIS?

If you have tried and met with defeat; if you have planned and watched your plans as they were crushed before your eyes, just remember that the greatest men in all history were the products of courage, and courage, you know, is born in the cradle of adversity.  Napoleon Hill

OR THIS?

There is no defeat except from within.  There is really no insurmountable barrier save you own inherent weakness of purpose.  Emerson

Okay, now we have slain some negative emotion demons/dragons.  What’s next?  Well, next we master some “Laws Of Success”, that will inevitably lead us to our illusive goal with positive purpose and a determined game plan.  Much of what follows comes from Napoleon Hill’s book titled “Laws Of Success”. This book is quite dated, and out of print.  But you will find much of this material in another book authored by him titled “Think and Grow Rich“.  Why not add this book to your library?

Here are a few of the “laws” presented by Napoleon Hill in paraphrased form:

A Definite Chief Aim:

Simply stated, how can you get where you want to go if you don’t know where you want to go, or what you want to achieve?

“Any definite cheif aim that is deliberately fixed in the mind and held there, with the determination to realize it, finally saturates the entire subconscious mind until it automatically influences the physical action of the body toward the attainment of that purpose…. Your Definite Chief Aim in life should be selected with deliberate care, and after it has been selected should be written out and placed where you will see it at least once a day, the psychological effect of which is to impress this purpose upon your subconscious mind so strongly that it accepts that purpose as a pattern or blueprint that will eventually dominate your activities in life and lead you, step by step, toward the attainment of the object back of that purpose”.

The converse of this concept is to….  “spread your thoughts over so many subjects and in so many different directions that they lead not to power, but to indecision and weakness… Know what you want, when you want it, why you want it, and HOW you intend to get it”.  Napoleon Hill

The man who actually knows just what he wants in life has already gone a long way toward attaining it.  Napoleon Hill

Just think how fortunate you are that you know just what it is that you want for a career.  Most men live their entire lives just making a living… not pursuing a career path with passion.  Earl Nightingale would tell you: “When you decide what it is in life that you want, I can tell you how to get it!  And… once you decide what it is in life that you want, you are 90% there!  You only need go another 10%”.  Again, how fortunate you are… you only have to go another 10%!

Enthusiasm:

“ENTHUSIASM is a state of mind that inspires and arouses one to put ACTION into the task at hand.  It does more than this – it is contagious, and vitally affects not only the enthusiast, but all with whom he comes in contact… Enthusiasm bears the same relationship to a human being that steam does to the locomotive – it is the vital moving force that impels action. Enthusiasm is the most important factor entering into salesmanship.  It is, by far, the most vital factor that enters into public speaking”. Napoleon Hill

ENTHUSIASM is the mainspring of the soul.  Keep it wound up and you will never be without power to get what you actually need.  Napoleon Hill

Desire:

Most major achievements in life require the ingredient of DESIRE.  If you don’t strongly desire a change in your circumstance, then where does the motivation and drive to do so come from?  It is here that I want to throw in the word “Persistence”.  Desire, combined with Persistence, can be compared to the dripping of water on a rock.  Over a period of time, even the hardest rock can be worn away.  Obviously, the rock represents an obstacle in your path, Desire is the water, and dripping represents Persistence.  Darel Burleson

A passionate DESIRE and an unwearied will can perform impossibilities, or what may seem to be such to the cold, timid and feeble.  Sir John Simpson

NOTE:

If Earl Nightingale were commenting on the above two concepts (goals and desire), he would put it more in terms like this:  Your goal should become a dominate force in your life.  It should be the first thing that you think of when you get up in the morning, and the last thing that you think of when you go to bed at night.  He would have you spending 20 minutes each day making a list of what you could be doing that would lead you more quickly and efficiently to your goal, and then tell you that time spent doing so is like digging in a vein of pure gold.

Self-confidence:

You must believe in yourself!  If you don’t, others will sense this, and you will be less effective.  Also, you will then tend to lack the “ca-ca-courage” to do what you must do to achieve your goals.  Affirmations will help give you this courage, drive you to take ACTION, and also help give you self-confidence.  Affirmation example:  I accept that I am becoming an international trainer, and everything I do contributes to that perfect result.  Try writing this affirmation everyday for 21 days.  It will invoke powerful sub-conscious mind results, and help move you in that direction.

A man who is self-reliant, positive, optimistic, and undertakes his work with the assurance of success magnetizes his condition.  He draws to himself the creative powers of the universe.  Napoleon Hill

Self-control/Thought Control (and Affirmations):

Self-control pertains to having the discipline, determination, and willpower to DO what is required to change your life style; in other words, to take ACTION. i.e.,to conquer procrastination.  Again, Earl Nightingale would make this point:  Your mind is the only thing in life that you have absolute control over.  In other words, you control your thoughts!  And it is your thoughts that will determine your future!  It has been said that “thoughts are things, and their airy wings speed over the track to bring back what ever went out from your mind”!

Herb, this is powerful stuff!!!  You can control your thoughts, or let your thoughts control you (for example, thoughts of fear and discouragement).  Affirmations are a way (or a tool) for controlling your thoughts!  And there is absolutely nothing stopping you from tapping into this power except a lack of a Definite Chief Aim, Desire, Self-control, Persistence, and Action.

One last thought on the power of thought:  Again, borrowing from Earl Nightingale, “You are now, and you will become what you think about”.  He calls this “The Strangest Secret”.  Why strange?  Why a secret?  Because it really isn’t a secret!  Philosophers throughout time have espoused this concept.  Yet, so few know it, understand it, or use it. Ergo… The Strangest Secret!

The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.  William James

A man is what he thinks about all day long.  Ralph Waldo Emerson

The only thing in the world that you have absolute control over is your thoughts!!!  Nightingale

Considerable emphasis was placed on the power of “affirmations” above.  Now let me outline an example of how you could go about invoking this concept in your daily life in a manner that could produce life-changing results.

  • Affirmations can deeply implant your goal in your mind to the extent that  your goal really IS the first thing that you think of when you get up in the morning, and the last thing that you think of when you go to bed at night.  And, your thoughts can change your life!
  • Affirmations can increase your DESIRE to take the ACTION (and make the sacrifices) required to adjust priorities in your life so that you are moving toward your goal on a daily basis.
  • Affirmations, and subsequent actions (or change in behavior) that they produce, can give you self-confidence, and help you over-come the fear of failure  of not succeeding in your next venture.

I believe that if you really use this tool, it will truly change your life.  Surly it is worth a try.  Let this effort be founded on a deep commitment (rather than a hit and miss, haphazard approach).  What else could you do in the next couple of months that would offer more potential!?

Remember, affirmations should be hand written or typed (15 repetitions) once or twice a day for 21 days.  If you miss one day, you have to start over!  Why?

Missing one day confirms that the affirmation itself, and the goal the affirmation represents, is not important enough for you to take the time to state it every day.  The very fact that you missed a day says that you must start over, because other interests are distracting you from your goal.  They are competing for your time, interfering with what should be a focused thought process, and preventing you from reaching your goal.

To illustrate this point, consider this:  If someone were to pay you $1,000 at the end of 21 days, providing that you didn’t miss a single day of writing your affirmation, do you really think that you would miss a single day?  NO! Because every day you would be thinking of that $1,000, and not missing a single day would be too important to you!  That is how important the affirmation process should become as part of your daily routine.

So here are the expected results for successfully completing the Affirmation Program.

  • It will control, direct and dominate your thoughts. And your   thoughts determine your future!
  • It will give you resolve, willpower, and drive you to take action.
  • That action taken will produce results!

Well Herb, we have come to the end of this material… more because of time restraints, not for lack of material!  I think you will readily agree that all of the above does not represent some shallow, short lived pep’m up platitudes, but rather deep and profound attitude adjustments and life changing concepts that, when accepted and practiced, can buoy you over the waveof adversity that will inevitably come your way from time to time.  More importantly, they can serve as guides to steer you past the obstacles that you now face.  And while doing so, give you peace of mind, and confidence that may have alluded you up to this point.  It will give you confidence, conviction, and assurance that you will obtain your goal of becoming an international trainer.  The only uncertainty is when.  But rest assured,  it will happen!

P.S.:  NOTE TO YOU, THE READER

If you know someone who is struggling with finding a job… and who doesn’t in today’s economy?  …, why not send “Herb’s Letter” to that person?  That person will appreciate your concern and thoughtfulness… and that should give you a warm glow… all in the spirit of caring, and being a mentor, of course!!
